THE REGISTRY is a long-term project collecting data on settlements affected by the war in Donbas, Ukraine. Numbering well over a thousand, from cities to the smallest rural settlements, the project creates visual, dimensional, and indexical records of each. Drawing on available data about levels of destruction, occupation, or liberation, each settlement’s name is recorded, its land area translated into a scaled square, and printed onto an individual card by the Ukrainian diaspora. For more on this project’s cultural and historical framework, please read The Object of Value.
Are you Ukrainian-born or of Ukrainian descent in the New York area? Join the project! The first round of prints based on frontline settlements in Donetsk oblast is taking place July 10 – September 5, 2026. The process is simple: Slinko will meet you in New York at your convenience and will take 2–5 prints of different settlements. The session takes about 30 minutes from start to finish and uses water-soluble ink. Each resulting print is indexical and unique; your imprint becomes part of The Registry. Sign up below!
